Announcements - Monday Sept. 24th, 2018 - Monday Sept. 24th, 2018<p>​<strong>Date: Monday September 24</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong>, 2018</strong></p><p><strong>Day: </strong>(SCDSB 5 Day Cycle) <strong>Day 5</strong></p><p>1.    Next Monday, Oct. 1 is Orange Shirt Day, a day to recognize that "Every Child Matters" However – <strong>we will recognize the day this Friday September 28</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong>. </strong>The Orange Shirt Campaign helps us remember the experiences of former students of residential schools.<br>It is a commitment to ongoing reconciliation in Canada. Orange Shirt Day was created in 2013 during the St. Joseph Mission Residential School Commemoration Project in Williams Lake, BC. <br>Please plan to wear an orange shirt a week from today!<br></p><p>2.    Grade 2 craft club members, please come to the library tomorrow (Tuesday) at first break.<br></p><p>Grade 3 craft club members, please come to the library WEDNESDAY at first break.<br></p><p>3.    The BBQ is this Thursday - September 27th - from 5-7pm bring your family to meet your teacher, interact with community members and buy some food.<br></p><p>4.    Today there will be a mandatory cross country meeting. All team members are to go to the gym at 10:35. There will be important information given about this week's practices and the after school run on Wednesday. Please wait for your coaches before you enter the gym. <br></p><p>5.    Online and at school, our Terry Fox donations are almost at $1300! Well done, Birchview! You have Until this Thursday to bring in any and all donations! The class that brings in the most money per person wins free pizza! Thank you to those who have brought in donations! Staff, there will be a route map in your mailboxes and on the staff white board later today for your reference.<br></p><p>6.    The Book Fair is coming this week.  On Wednesday the Book Fair will be opened during breaks for students who have money to purchase books.  Thursday evening during Family Night, the Book Fair will be opened to everyone.  <br>The Book Fair is a fundraising event for the library. Our goal this year is to raise $3000.00 Hope to see you there.<br></p><p>7.    The next announcement is from Mr. Brooks:<br>Unfortunately, today is my last day at Birchview after 19 wonderful years. I am off to Worsley tomorrow and would like to say goodbye to all the wonderful students here at Birchview. Thanks to all those students who say hi to me every day and always laugh at my silly jokes. I am very happy to have been part of the Birchview family for so long and got to know so many of you. All the best and I hope you have a great school year.<br></p><p>8.    Intermediate Boys Volleyball will have a final tryout Tuesday morning at 8am. All grade 7 & 8 boys are welcome. Don't forget your water bottle and indoor shoes. Team will be posted Tuesday afternoon.<br></p><p>9.    There will be a junior boys' basketball try out tomorrow at 12:55 in the gym. Come ready to play!<br></p>

Announcements - Thursday Sept. 20th, 2018 - Thursday Sept. 20th, 2018<p>​<strong>Date: Thursday September 20</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong>, 2018</strong></p><p><strong>Day: </strong>(SCDSB 5 Day Cycle) <strong>Day 3</strong></p><p>1.    The Book Fair is coming.  It will be here next Wednesday and will be open until Oct. 1.  Please pick up your Book Fair Flyer the next time you are in the library.  On the back of the flyer there is a ticket that can be filled out and dropped in the contest box when you make a purchase at the Book Fair.  Every family has a chance to win $25.00 worth of books for your home and $25.00 in books for your classroom.<br></p><p>2.    We are almost at $1000 raised for our school Terry Fox Run! Let's keep it going Birchview! The class that brings in the most money per student on average will win a free pizza party for the entire class! Thank you to those who have donated already, at the school or online. A reminder that the deadline is tomorrow morning to get your t-shirt order in to have it here by the run date, one week today.<br></p><p>3.    Cross-country runners with t-shirt order forms are asked to bring them to Mrs. Sims' office, room 222, following the announcements.<br></p><p>4.    Attention – Intermediate Boys playing Flag Football. There will be a practice today at first break outside in the field. If there is inclement weather – please meet your coaches in the gym. Thank you! <br></p><p><br></p>
Announcements - Wednesday September 19th, 2018 - Wednesday September 19th, 2018<p>​<strong>Date: Wednesday September 19</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong>, 2018</strong></p><p><strong>Day: </strong>(SCDSB 5 Day Cycle) <strong>Day 2</strong></p><p>1.     One week from today the Book Fair will be here.  It is here from September 25- Oct. 1.  It will be open for sales during the breaks for students who have brought money to make purchases. Teachers may sign up to preview the Book Fair with their class.<br></p><p>2.     Thursday evening during Family Night, the Book Fair will be open for families to browse and make purchases.  <br></p><p>3.     This is a fundraising event for the library.  The goal this year is to raise $3000.00.  <br></p><p>4.     Reminder to all our students that our outdoor classroom area continues to be a quiet area.  As such, there is to be no tag or running games happening in that area.  Our field is a great space to run!<br></p><p>5.     We are finding a number of large holes being dug around the climber equipment causing some tripping by students and staff.  We ask that you please watch where you are digging and also that if you see a hole that you fill it in to help keep everyone safe.  Thanks!<br></p><p>6.     Attention junior boys interested in trying out for the junior boys' basketball team. The first try out for the team will be today at 12:55 in the gym.<br></p><p>7.     Intermediate flag football tryouts will be held today at first break on the field. <br></p><p>8.     Students from the cross-country team who wish to purchase a team shirt with their name and number on the back are reminded that orders are due on Friday.  Please bring forms and money to Mrs. Sims's office, room 222. Extra order forms are available.  This is an optional purchase and school shirts will be provided to runners who do not have their own t-shirts.     <br></p><p>9.     The next Intermediate Girls Basketball Tryouts will be held on Thursday and Friday at second break.<br></p><p>10.  Intermediate drum line signups are today with Mr. Carson during first break in the front foyer.<br></p><p>11.  Attention all cross country team members....please remember to return your revised permission forms this week. Junior forms to Mrs. Duits and Intermediate forms to Mrs. Tiessinga. They must be returned by Friday to participate in next Wednesday's after school run. Thank you.<br></p><p><br></p>
BREAKFAST CLUB HELP NEEDED! CLUB HELP NEEDED! <p>​Hello Parents & Community!<br></p><p><strong>Birchview needs your help!  We are looking for volunteers to help with our daily Breakfast Program. </strong></p><p><strong></strong>Every morning we run a Breakfast program for our students. We provide healthy foods like yogurt, fruit, cereal, bagels, tea biscuits and more to help the kids get the best start to their day! It runs from 8:40am-8:55am every morning. <br></p><p>We don't do it alone! We have parent and community volunteers come in the morning to set up and expedite the program. However - we are short volunteers. <strong>We are specifically looking for Monday mornings right now. </strong> If you are interested - please contact Mrs. Sawyer in the office.<br></p><p>If you don't currently have a Vulnerable Sector Check done - we can work on getting it done.<br></p><p>If you are interested in helping with the breakfast program but aren't available Monday's - please contact us about volunteering on the other days!<br></p><p>Thank you!<br></p><p><img src="/PublishingImages/Lists/LocalNews/AllItems/Breakfast%20Club.png" alt="Breakfast Club.png" style="margin:5px;" /><br></p>

Please bring your permission forms. Meet the coaches on the tarmac during the recess part of your break. <br></p><p>3.    Our Terry Fox total is now over $600! Well done Birchview! Keep bringing in those donations! Thank you to those who have already donated. T-shirt orders are due by this Friday if you would like them in time for the event.<br></p><p>4.    Any intermediate boys and girls interested in trying out for the intermediate drum line are asked to see Mr. Carson and sign up tomorrow at first break in the front foyer. Thank you.<br></p><p>5.    We were very lucky to have a beautiful mountain hike donated to our school for one lucky grade 7 student. We held our raffle this morning and drum roll please….. the winner is Ein Smeets! Congratulations Ein – come and get your bike today! Announcements - Monday Sept 17th, 2018 - Monday Sept 17th, 2018<p><strong>Date: Monday September 17</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong>, 2018 </strong></p><p><strong>Day: </strong>(SCDSB 5 Day Cycle) <strong>Day 5</strong></p><p>1.    This is a reminder for all junior and intermediate students.  The Eco Team's FIRST meeting will be today during the 1st Nutrition Break in room 131.  That's 10:35 in room 131.  Please bring your lunch and your enthusiasm!<br></p><p>2.    There will be a sign-up for co-ed Flag Football during first nutrition break in room 221 for any interested grade 7 and 8 boys and girls.<br></p><p>3.    There will be an intermediate girls' basketball tryout today at second break.<br></p><p>4.    Keep bringing in that money for our Terry Fox run, Birchview! An updated total will be given tomorrow as our online donations keep coming in too. Students will be coming around to collect money today. You are also able to make Terry Fox donations online! Incentives will be revealed soon! Thank you to everyone that has donated so far. Do you like to make a difference in your community?  If you said "YES" to any of those questions, then YOU should come to the Eco Teams start up meeting on Monday during the first Nutrition break.<br></p><p>2.    Do you love to write?  Want a chance to be published?  There is a student writing contest that might interest you.  The contest is for students K-8 for poetry and short stories.  There are no entry fees.  If you are interested, please meet with Ms. Kaufman at 10:35 today in the library for details.<br></p><p>3.    Reminder: Cross Country permissions are due today! The first tryout will take place on Friday September 14th at second break in the gym.<br></p><p>2.    This is a reminder from the Eco Team to all Junior and Intermediate students.  If you are interested in joining the Eco Team, please come to our meeting on Monday during the 1st nutrition break.  Mr. Pinkerton and Mrs. Fleming hope to see some returning team members and some new faces! <br></p><p>3.    There will be a cross country practice at first break today. Do you care about a healthy planet? Are you a team player? If so, and you're in grades 4-8, you may be interested in joining the Birchview Dunes' Eco Team Recycling Crew. If you would like to sign up or learn more about becoming a Recycling Crew member, please come to Mr. Pinkerton's new classroom, Room 131, at the beginning of first Nutrition Break this morning. Don't be late. See you at 10:35 in Room 131. If you miss this meeting, be sure to stop by Mr. Pinkerton's room at a later date to express your interest.  <br><br>Also, next Monday, the Birchview Eco Team will have its first meeting of the year. Anyone in grades 4-8 is welcome to join. Stay tuned for more details. <br></p><p>2.    We have brought in just over $108 dollars on day one for the Terry Fox Foundation! Way to go Birchview! Students will be coming around today to collect any donations that have come in today. Thank you to those who have brought in donations so far.
