Hello Birchview Families,

We are reaching out today to review some important COVID protocols.

COVID Daily Screening

Everyday before school please complete the COVID self-screening assessment. If your child is symptom free then please send them to school. If they are exhibiting symptoms, please keep them home and follow the directions listed from Public Health in the screening tool. The Self-Screening tool can be found at: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/

Mask Protocols and Exemptions

The following are the mask protocols that the Ministry of Education has mandated for school.  For students in Kindergarten to Grade 3, face masks are encouraged but not required.  For students in Grades 4-8, students are required to wear non medical face masks when inside the school building and on school buses/vans.  It is recommended that students be sent with 2 masks/day and for those that do not have a mask upon entry, one will be provided by the school so they can enter the school building appropriately.  For those students in Grades 4-8 who show up at their bus stop without a mask, one will be provided by the driver for them to board the bus.

For families that may require an exemption from the mask protocol, a medical note indicating the reason for it will need to be provided to the school for consideration.

At recess and outdoor time, each student will be provided with a breakaway Birchview Lanyard to clip to their mask to keep it safe during outdoor activities.

Procedures for students with symptoms

Students that experience symptoms while at school will be sent to the isolation room located in our school office.  Parents/guardians will be contacted to pick up their child and will be advised to seek medical advice from their provider, including the recommendation of testing for COVID-19.

Parents/guardians are reminded that they must have a working telephone number to be reached at and that they must come pick up their child from the school as they will not be able to access bus transportation or after school care.  As well we ask that parents/guardians provide the office with emergency contact numbers so that if the school is unable to reach the parent/guardian, then the emergency contact can be called to come for the student.

Kiss and Ride, Bus Lane and Drop off alternate locations (No parents congregating on the yard)

It is imperative for the health of our school community that we do not have people congregating in our yard. We ask you to create a meeting spot off school property wherever possible or to have an older student walk the younger students to an adult just off site. It is vital that we do not have our driveway and parking lot blocked with cars. If you do use the Kiss and Ride lane in our parking lot, please wait until the pylons before letting children out of the vehicle. This area is sectioned off for students to safely access the yard without walking in between parked cars. Please continue to use the walk throughs on Bay Court, Caribou Trail or Dyer Drive walkways.  Finally, we remind parents/guardians that they are not to enter the Bus Lane at the front of the school to drop off or pick up their child(ren) during the hours of 8:00 - 9:00am and 2:30 - 3:30pm, but to again use our Kiss and Ride area and/or park in our parking lot.

Thanks for your assistance.
